AEONIAN MAGAZINE

David Michel Fayek (@david_mfayek) is a visual artist based in Cairo and Milano. His work “examines the relationship between space, power, and socio-political control, focusing on how urban environments are strategically designed to enforce surveillance structures”. He is interested in the energy relations that exist between nature and other living systems and explores this by drawing from ancient Asian and African medical-shamanic sciences and using energy-conducting materials in his work. Andrey Piletsky (@andrey.pil.art) reframes the definition of photography through his figurative chemigrams. His pieces are completely camera-less but made entirely from photo chemicals. His work draws its subjects from real life objects in his studio and homely scenes, which serve as motifs for harmony and warmth. Read more in Issue No. 12.

This beautiful piece by Vincent Magnier (@vmgnr) was featured in Issue No. 11. Magnier explains, “the materiality of the presentation… on Japanese paper amplifies the memorial value of the photographic print, which is slightly blurred in places. In this way, the photo seems to assert its status as a clue. These photographs are ‘snippets of history’ which are as much testimonies to the past as they are narrative inventions”.

This silver gelatin print, by Leslie Norman (@leslienormanphoto), is made from 35mm color slide film from the 1950s during the Korean War. Norman states, “After inheriting a large collection of my husband’s late grandfather’s personal archives, I wanted to find a way to connect with him and honor his legacy in some way…no attempt was made at post-editing, cleaning the slides, or removing debris and dust. They are being seen just as they were left many decades ago.”
